Comment of Jonel Johnson:
At the age of 77 my grandmother, a native islander from Matthew Town, Inagua is very familiar with this term and uses this term daily. However, when I first asked her about this term she thought I was referring to the actual family member when I meant it in the context of hair. Hence, she was first aware of this term when kids her age use to use this word to describe her short curly hair. Ironically, she now uses this term to describe specifically females around her when referring to the hair that curls up on the back of their neck and not the full head of hair itself. For instance, if she noticed a female in our family with “cousins” she’d normally yell out “Gal go comb them cousins”.
