wing-worm

n. 1. [from the wing-like appendages with which it propels itself] a sea creature, the pteropod (Clio sp.): 1788 Two species of wing- worms (Clio), the one with black tiger spots, the other without spots; both, when seized, give out a dark purple-red liquid (Schoepf 303).

2. [possibly by confusion with ring-worm] a sea creature (Teredo sp?) which bores into and eats conchs, wooden boat hulls, etc. (Nassau)
