[OED, a morbid condition of the system, characterized by undue elevation of the temper­ature] n. a cold; any ailment: 1888 "I'se had de feber." She does not mean that she has had any fever in particular, but that she has been ailing; for every sickness here is called the fever (Powles 170). She have a fever and the doctor say it was jaundice (Nassau). (Gen.)
