Comment of 7I2GFNKNpjOm:
Pig stys one size doesn't fit all Pig pens should be built to acoamodcte a certain number of pigs and if the space per pig is right, then all the pigs will shit in the same place in the dunging area which is where the drinkers are. Put one pig in a big pen by itself and it will shit everywhere. Why is that? Well a pig needs somewhere to sleep, to eat and to shit. If the balance is right then they all have their own preferred spots to do each. How much sleeping area each pig will need also changes with the weather and the age of the pig. If the weather is cold they will huddle together, hot and they move apart. The comfort zone temperature for pigs decreases as they get bigger, more insulated. So here in Thailand you have temperatures almost too cold for piglets but too hot for adult pigs. If a pig is panting it is too hot. Shivering is obvious. If you have young pigs that are cold put down some straw for them to sleep on. In fact it is a good idea to supply rice hulls or straw in the pens in the sleeping and eating areas. It provides them something to root around in and diverts attention from ripping up your concrete floor.
